Snowy weather has us thinking about winter driving safety! Help keep yourself and your passengers safe on the roads this winter by following these tips:
- Make sure you clear off your entire car before driving after it snows. Clearing off just the driver side window or just the windshield isn’t enough – snow blowing from the hood of your car onto the windshield or falling from the roof onto the back window can cause you to lose sight of the road in front of you, so it’s important to make sure that snow is gone before you take off.
- Clean off headlights and brake lights. Just as those lights help you see the road in front of you, they also help other cars see you. Make sure those lights are clear from snow and dirt.
- Wipe off your backup camera. Although your sensors are still accurate when they are covered in dirt, if you rely on your camera to judge distance and safety, make sure you can see out of it!
- Keep your washer fluid full. There is nothing worse than having a dirty windshield that you can’t clean off.
- Make sure your wipers aren’t frozen. Actually, there is something worse than a dirty windshield: a windshield you try to clean with washer fluid and the fluid works but the wipers don’t! You won’t be able to see anything and that’s very dangerous.
- Take it slow on the road and plan extra time. Rushing leads to accidents. It’s better to arrive late and alive than never arrive at all.
